Hub Racing is proud to present the
4th annual City Bikes RFK Criterium, Sunday August 6th 2006 on the Grand Prix
course at RFK Stadium. The City Bikes RKF Criterium remains Washington DC’s
only US Cycling Federation sanctioned event. This year, Hub Racing's sponsors,
including Timbuk2 Messenger Bags, Cannondale, and Asylum Bar and Lounge, have
raised the stakes by offering a $5000 Women’s Challenge for the nation’s top
female cyclists who are coming to DC to compete.
Races begin at 8AM with men's and
women's amateur bike races and continue hourly until the marquee Women’s
Challenge goes off at 4PM. There will be a Fun Ride hosted by the Washington
Area Bicycle Association at 1:30PM so spectators are encouraged to bring their
bikes and helmets to take a spin on the race course!
The City Bikes RFK Criterium
benefits the Doug Gordon Memorial Easter Seals Fund. The Doug Gordon Memorial
Fund is a scholarship program that sends children with disabilities to the
Easter Seals Sno-Mo Camp Program. Camp Sno-Mo is an inclusive camping program
that partners the Boy Scouts with children who have physical and cognitive
disabilities.
Hub Racing is Washington DC's only
professional woman's cycling team. In 2005 they finished in the top 20 in the
USA Cycling National Calender Series. Hub Racing is captained by Sheba Farrin,
the most victorious woman cyclist in the Mid Atlantic region in the last
decade, and features Brooke O'Connor who will be defending two victories from
last years City Bikes RFK Criterium: Women's Pro and Masters. The last weekend
in July 2006, Hub Racing's Becky Broeder enjoyed victories at both the Snowbowl
Hill Climb Championships and the Waputki Road Race.
