Hub Racing is proud to announce the 5th Annual City Bikes RFK Criterium. Washington DC's only bicycle race returns to the Grand Prix Race Course at Washington DC's Historic RFK Stadium Sunday June 17th 2007. The City Bikes RFK Criterium features the $5000 Hub Racing Women's Challenge. In 2006, Laura Van Gilder, (racing with Cheerwine for 2007), took the $1000 top prize. 2007 once again promises to highlight some of the fastest woman cyclists in the world, and host club Hub Racing hopes to give them a ride for the money with returning team members that include Becky Broeder, Nicole Raspa and Sheba Farrin being joined by new 2007 Hub Racing additions including Dale Tye and Jenette Williams.
The 2007 City Bikes RFK Criterium includes eight bicycle races in total: all senior category levels plus Masters (age-graded) bike races for both men and women, allowing multiple racing opportunities for many competitors. In 2006, Mimi Newcastle braved temperatures above 100 degrees to race three times, placing top twenty in all three of her events. The bicycle racing will begin at 8AM and run until 5pm with the featured women's professional cycling race, the $5000 Hub Racing Women's Challenge, starting at 2:30 PM.
The Washington Area Bicyclist Association Fun Ride and Kids Rodeo held during the race allows spectators from adults to young children a chance to ride this amazing Grand Prix Race Course. The WABA Kids Rodeo helps teach young budding bicycle riders about cycling safety in a controlled, fun, and exciting environment. An obstacle course helps teach children the rules of the road and introduces them to the skills and knowledge needed to be safe cyclists.
The event has always supplied free food for competitors and this year, long time Hub Racing sponsor Asylum Bar and Restaurant will be cooking for the bike racers all day long with Drinkmore Water quenching their thirsts.
The Hub Racing City Bikes RFK Criterium with the help of its sponsors, including Cannondale, Bell Sports, Timbuk2 Designs, and Serfas, has raised over $5000 for the Doug Gordon Memorial Easter Seals Fund. Sponsor donations have included product for raffles and the matching of donations from racers. The bicycle racers in the Men's Masters field at the City Bikes RFK Criterium are to be especially commended, having donated over $1500 across the last few years during registration.
