The Gran Premio de Guatemala is a four stage omnium race held in the rural mountains volcanos around Lago Atitlan in the heart of Guatemala. 2008 will represent the third riding of this race, happening before in 2002 and 2004. While it is a road race, and the race will be won on a traditional style road bike, many competitors may choose touring bikes for easier gearing or cross bikes for handling the cobblestones. There is one simple theme to the Gran Premio:
Ride Uphill.

What is the Gran Premio? Read this.
Registration will include housing for the 12 nights in Antigua and Panajachel as well as travel between Guatemala City and Antigua and Panajachel
Registration will include some community meals.
Registration includes all race fees.
Budget:
Please be prepared: if you are in Antigua Guatemala outside of the official event dates, while we will facilitate your housing, you will need to pay for it.
Food in Panajachel and Antigua will run about $25 per day per person. Only a few community meals will be on us. Most of this will be on you.
Only drink purchased bottled water or bio-filtered water in Guatemala. This will cost you about $10 per day.
We are estimating that you may spend around $50 per day on food, water, suntan lotion, etc. Total: about $600. That's basically no-frills, but plenty to get you through with a bunch of extra for buying gifts for your friends and family.
Flights from major USA cities will run you between $400 and $800, cheaper the earlier you register for the race and book the flights of course. On April 12th, we found flights for around $350 round trip from DC.
Total budget: $1700:
