Victory in Milwaukee!! Super Week day 4 pt 2

Saturn Whitnall Park Road Race Milwaulkee Wi

The Hub Racing women really pulled it out today. Following
yesterday's 3rd place and the move into 2nd place in the
omnium, the team knew it wasn't enough just to put Jenette
Williams on the podium again. They had to take points out
of series leader Kelly Benjamin to give Hub Racing and
J-dub a shot at the overall. Benjamin had taken 2nd
yesterday giving her a 10 point lead over Jenette Williams
in the GC.

On the warm up lap, Jenette got a small twig stuck in her
cog set, and the rush to get her to the starting line got
the Hub Racing women's blood pumping.

The pace was high from the gun, but Hub Racing's Krystal
Jeffs stood guard at the front and wouldn't let anything go
early. Hub Racing wanted to sprint and wanted control. Hub
Racing's Leeanne Manderson watched after Jenette on the
early jaunts up the big hill, but a mechanical put her in
off the back. With Jenette exposed, series leader Kelly
Benjamin of Cheerwine looked for her chance, but there was
nowhere to go yet with Hub Racing's Becky Broeder taking
over guard duty. Leeanne made it safely back into the field
and again Hub Racing looked to control the race.

But with no one in GC contention making any serious moves,
Hub Racing was satisfied to let series leader Kelly
Benjamin and her Team Cheerwine chase small group after
small group.

Finally Benjamin took her own chance to leave Jenette
behind but Hub Racing's Dale Tye responded immediately and
Benjamin couldn't get more than a few seconds before being
reigned in.

The whole of Hub Racing pushed Jenette through the field
the final time up the big climb. Over the top, J-dub
unloaded. From over 400 meters, she exploded out of the
front of the field to what looked like an easy sprint win.
But Benjamin rebounded and out-sped her towards the line.
Under the finish banner, Benjamin threw her bike across. As
J-dub stretched for the line, Benjamin flipped her bike as
she gave her last desperate attempt to beat her rival, but
it was mere inches too late. Hub Racing's Jenette Williams
had triumphed!

Results:
1st Jenette Wiliams Hub Racing
2nd Kelly Benjamin Team Cheerwine

Overall GC with 3 races remaining:
Kelly Benjamin 114 points
Jenette Williams 107 points

The Race is on!
