fitchburg stage 3 of 4

Wachusett Mountain Road Race
breakaways never got more than 20 seconds off the front as
colavita dominated the day keeping kelly benjamin in the
green jersey of points leader and claiming the stage win
with andrea dvorak. but on the final lap, when 4 riders,
including 2 from colavita, got 2 minutes on the peleton, it
was lipsmacker who methodically chased it down. lip smacker
had the best result with 2nd place evelyn stevens who
retains the yellow jersey and grew her lead in the general
classification to 20 senconds.
the battle up front would wittle the peleton down to about
35 of the 100 riders by race end.
hub racing's sally annis stayed with the front group all 6
times over wachusett mountain and finished 20th on the
stage. the ride puts her into 26th in gc - into the nrc
points.
hub's josie, sheba, and amy all joined together smartly
with the grupetto. liz rode hard with the group off the
back but made the time cut. all 4 of them will join sally
on sunday's criterium.
veronica did several laps before the mountain overcame her
and arley, still suffering the effort from the circuit race
on friday, didnt start.
sally took 6th last year at the tour's closing criterium,
so the team will be out there working for her in fitchburg.
