super week womens pro tour race 12 of 14
super week womens pro tour
race 12 of 14
friday july 24th 2009
Chase Food Folks & Spokes Criterium
hub continued to go for the red jersey sprinters points on
friday. the race opened with a flury of break attempts as
team after team sent riders up the road. racers down in
general classification want those last couple of stage
wins, and there was no patience in the peleton. hub sent
liz leyden, amy mcguire, and josie giddens all off the
front at various times throughout the race, but strong head
winds made riding alone difficult at best and down right
impossible on some laps, and the red jersey points forced
colavita to chase. it all came back together each time
before the bell, and veronica went head to head versus
shontell 3 times in the sprints. carrie cash whooten needed
to mix it up as well, shooting for her own placing in the
red jersey competition.
hub's elizabeth morse hill, sheba farrin, amy mcguire all
took shots at the leadout for veronica, and the whole hub
team tried to set up the wall. no matter what any one did
however, shontell rose above the challenge. 3 times
shontell crossed the line 1st, with carrie 2nd and an
exhausted veronica 3rd. and while not mathematically secure
for the red jersey win, shontell has indeed created the
distance that makes this competition practically over.
veronica secured in 2nd for the sprints for the series ,
and carrie pushing forward for 5th into the last money
spot.
josie crashed around the back side midway through the race
and took a seat by the sidelines. she'll be back out on
saturday to give another go.
the long field sprint out of the final turn once again went
to sara caravella with alan cycling. hub racing held on for
3 money spots with amy, elizabeth and sheba.
detailed results not yet posted at the superweek website.
hub sits 5,6,7, and 10 in the gc with elizabeth, amy,
sheba, and josie. nikki wangsgard of colavita wears yellow
and will do so till the end. veronica sits 2nd behind
shontell who is now in red in the sprints.
saturday's Humboldt Park Criterium contains a sharp turn
leading into a climb the women will do 40 times around. the
decent curves to the finish line, and the course begs for a
breakaway. everyone will be trying to go off the front and
anyone missing out will likely chase. classic near-end of a
tour race with lower gc riders taking their best shots at
the stage win. hub will try to get off the front as well.
