The Shorewood Foundation presents The Tim Hart DDS/Rainbow
Jersey Shorewood Criterium
a tour can be fickle and to win it you have to make it
through every day. safely. if you're a great racer, you can
loose a day or two to the peleton, but only so many.
following the race on wednesday, colavita changed
strategies. yellow jersey shantell gauthier stayed out of
the points sprints. hub racing in turn, tossed in a 2nd
rider for the lead out to try to put veronica martinez more
solidly into the points competition. a break away would
steal some points up the road in one of the sprints, and
veronica and hub's elizabeth morse hill took the field to
gain ground on the red jersey. jennifer purcell in turn
would come back in the next sprint to gain one of the
points back. the third sprint came to the photo with
jennifer nipping veronica by less than a centimeter.
overall they would stay even for the day, with hub's
veronica moving further ahead of 3rd.
late attacks by mulitple teams including ultralink forced
colavita to chase again for the final several laps and the
field ramped it up for a $250 gamnblers prime that was won
off the front by an attacking team kenda. but it was all
together for the final sprint until the yellow jersey hit
the ground in the final turn. the red jersey came off the
bike as well and colavita's nikki wangsgard came around the
spill for the win. but shontell wouldn't get to finsh, and
while she'll be fine for the next race with just some
bruises, she looses a day's worth of points to the peleton.
josie giddens led the charge for hub to the line with a 5th
place finish, with elizabeth and sheba farrin also in the
top 10.
detailed results not yet posted on the superweek website.
we should have them up with a first week summery tomorow
afternoon.
friday is a day off for the women. we resume racing on
saturady with the Schlitz Park - Endeavour Cycling
Challenge, the return to brewers hill, including the steap
climb up 2nd street.
